The members of the Scientific Council for Statistics and Economic Studies convened at the Ministry of State on Monday 14 July for a meeting chaired by Professor Pierre Dubois.
At the meeting, Alexandre Bubbio, Director of Monaco Statistics (IMSEE), gave an overview of his organisation’s recent work including:
• the new real estate price index;
• the findings of the 2024 European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD);
• the national census;
• ongoing and future projects, such as the tourism industry survey, an updated study of gender pay disparities, and Monaco’s migration to the 2025 version of the French official classification of economic activities (‘NAF’).
At this 17th meeting, the Council members discussed areas requiring attention and suggested new ways of improving the Principality’s statistics ecosystem.
The session concluded with an address from Mr Marc Vassallo, Secretary-General of the Government, who commended both the Council and Monaco Statistics for their commitment to providing reliable indicators, emphasising the critical role of robust statistics in understanding Monaco’s social and economic dynamics, and anticipating the challenges ahead.
Afterwards, the members of the Scientific Council attended a working lunch hosted by Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadei, acting Minister of State.
The Scientific Council for Statistics and Economic Studies serves in an advisory capacity to the Minister of State, who guarantees its independence. It gives opinions on studies to be carried out, the state of the country’s statistics ecosystem, and the annual programme of surveys. The Council’s eleven members are drawn from civil society, assemblies, and government departments and agencies.
